“The pain of regret fades, but the pain of ‘What If’ sticks around.”Kyle Scheele, How to Host a Viking Funeral
So, you’ve got this bucket list, full of excitement, adventure and fulfillment. Full of things you are terrified of doing and things you never think you’ll actually accomplish, but is it a wish list or a to-do list?
Hmmm. So, what if you chose something off that list and did it?
What if you booked the thing, learned the thing, bought the thing, started the thing that’s been gathering dust on your bucket list? Close your eyes. Visualize it. Feel the excitement, the anticipation, the sense of accomplishment, the joy. Feel the ‘I can’t believe I just did that’ moment.
Do you feel excited or sad? Is it an excited feeling of accomplishment or a sad feeling of regret? Both are normal feelings when it comes to big goals. For both, fear is the catalyst. It both pushes you forward and pulls you away at the same time.
The question is: What exactly is keeping you from experiencing that thing? What do you fear? What could happen? What could not happen? List your obstacles. Time, money, no one to go with, global warming, all of them! Once you list all of the excuses you are using to not cross a dream off the list, I want you to write the solution beside it. In a perfect world, what would make this obstacle a non-issue? What would need to happen for you to do it?
It’s Time to Take Action
There are obstacles on your list that you have solutions for now. You’ve kicked all of those excuses to the curb and that is both nerve wracking and overwhelming. Need help? Don’t say no for other people. I know that asking for help is almost harder than saving money, but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do to make your dreams come true. You will be surprised at how many people want to support you with that dream, and you never know, they may have a similar dream.
The truth, is that no one is going to do it for you.
It’s a tough pill to swallow knowing that it’s all in your hands. It’s overwhelming. It’s hard. Then there’s the guilt for not starting sooner or saying no when you had an opportunity to go for it. We all feel this. What can you do? Take your first steps TODAY. Today? Yes, today! You are not the first person on the planet to do this. Do one thing that will bring you closer to your goal. It will feel more real and attainable at each step; you’ve already squashed your excuses. How amazing is that?
Don’t have a bucket list? Make one! It makes everything so clear when you see your dreams and goals laid out in front of you. My blog post will give you guidance on this.
I challenge you to cross 1 thing off their bucket list. If you don’t have a bucket list, make one. Comment on this blog or tag me on Instagram @livethenewbucketlist and let me know what you accomplished so I can celebrate with you!
