What did you Learn about Yourself in Quarantine?

Well? What DID you learn about yourself in quarantine? I thought I was just going to learn how fast I can go through everything on Netflix; turns out I learned so much more.

Here’s What I Learned…

I learned about my relationship with time. Time is a funny thing, isn’t it? It can go SO slowly at work or in school and so quickly when every day is the same. Making an effort to construct each day to be unique, so I don’t get caught in the monotony. I also learned how quickly time can be wasted. I’ve made a conscious effort to accomplish things weekly, so at the end of shutdown, I can say I did something worthwhile. I mean, can you believe the pandemic has lasted 4 months?

Next: my mental health. Whether you have mental health issues or not, this pandemic was not easy. I am grateful to not live with mental health issues, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t struggle. One thing I discovered how introverted I am and how content I can be alone. I also had bouts of loneliness and sadness with no one that I could physically go to for comfort; this was the hardest because I’m a hugger. I’ve dubbed the post-pandemic time ‘Hugmaggedon’. I’ve got a lot of hugs trapped in me and the lack of physical connections with friends and family made this the hardest. I never really thought about who of the people closest to me were extroverts, but I quickly found out and I struggled to help them through it because I didn’t know how.

Finally, I learned about my physical health. As someone that thought they ate healthy, I thought I was doing just fine until I started the 75Hard challenge. When I had to choose a diet, I began looking at portions of veggies, fruit, dairy, grains, etc and was shocked to discover I was probably malnourished. To be clear, I was never starving myself; I was never hungry, but I was not eating food that nourished my body. Now eating Mediterranean style(I hate the word ‘diet’), I’m aware of my veggie intake and now feel so much healthier in addition to being physically fit.
